Google Map To Extend Its Reach To 12 Indian Cities

Google Inc. is all geared up to expand its services its Google Maps feature in the Indian market by targeting 12 more cities. The service now caters to a wider audience that includes regions like Kolkata, Thiruvananthapuram, Ludhiana, Surat, Madurai and Visakhapatnam.

This venture by Google Products will allow the residents of these Indian cities will get access to the real time information on traffic present on the roads, highways and expressways. At present it is said that there are 34 conurbations spread across India that will benefit from various Maps feature that is available to mobile and desktop users.

So the new traffic feature will provide users access to guides so that they do not really get lost in the tangled routes. The roads in the Indian cities are now “color coded” that will give information on the traffic conditions. For instance, if the roads are completely jammed then a red light will pop, if the congestion is medium then an orange light and green indicates clear traffic.

The navigation mode will allow the driver to approximate the time required to reach the destination that will allow them to choose a variety of routes. The expected time to reach the destination will be mentioned on each route. So users can see the flagged routes and estimate what will be the easiest for them in terms of traveling.

According to Suren Ruhela, who is the director for Program Management stated, "We are constantly working on making Google Maps a more comprehensive, daily tool for Indians and we hope that this new real-time traffic information for 12 cities and all national highways will help drivers across the country find the best routes to their destinations with the fewest delays.”

In a series if updates launched by the search engine giant this also comes as an additional add om. Moreover, it is also said to have lane guidance that will be audio enabled in almost 20 cities. Hindi, which is the mother tongue of the region and English will be sued by this service in order to facilitate users.

It is a great initiative by the company to launch such a service in the Indian region since the traffic conditions in India are extremely clogged. Such a service will facilitate the local inhabitants and tourists by providing them an alternative solution to the traffic scenario. Moreover for all those commuting in public transportation the company will also provide options for buses.
