Users Annoyed By Twitter Heart Like Button

Twitter Inc

Twitter introduced a new heart-like button which has annoyed and hurt the hardcore Twitter users.

Twitter Inc. is trying too hard to stay at the top of the social media industry as well as compete against Facebook. It was recently the most preferred and used social media platform in the market but gradually it is losing its charm. The hardcore Twitter users are not liking the changes that the company is making in order to remain a competitive force. Furthermore, they do not want their favorite social media platform to be transformed into Facebook. Recently, the company removed the word limit from its direct messages.

Another new change that the company has made in its user interface is the removal of the favorite and star buttons. Within an hour of this update, users started to express their outrage and stated that the company is trying too hard to beat Facebook by becoming Facebook. The company makes changes in the platform in hopes to attract the new customers and get more monthly active users than usual. But with every new change it makes, majority of the users end up being annoyed or hurt.

Ever since Jack Dorsey has taken the position of Chief Executive Officer at Twitter, the company is undergoing an aggressive transitional period where it is making leadership changes, staff changes, and the interface changes in order to get back to its usual performance. The company is also said to be posting poor results for a long time now.

This was one of the big changes which has really annoyed the Twitter addicts after seeing the removal of their most used favorite and star buttons and the introduction of heart and like buttons. The favorite and star buttons held a lot of significance in users’ time at Twitter. It could mean that they like some tweet or fact that they would like to come back and see again or it could also be taken as a hate-fave button which could be done sarcastically. The star button was also a favorite among the users who were into flirting.

But as now it is gone, heart or new like button would not give the same feel whatsoever. According to a source, “Twitter users gradually and subtly built and agreed on different meanings to when a tweet gets a star, depending on the situation.” The like or heart button seems like a rip off of Facebook to the users. A like button does not seem appropriate on this social media platform as Twitter is more than just a social media website.
