Twitter Modifies Its Page With More Algorithms

Twitter has introduced more algorithms in an attempt to precisely filter out content and conversation for its users.

Twitter Algorithms

Twitter Inc. is currently focusing on expanding and engaging with the new and existing users. Irrespective of trailing to Facebook by miles, the company has not given up hope and is constantly making changes in its interface to make user experience better along with a more user-friendly environment.

The social media network recently announced its latest update that will make ‘tracking’ and ‘following’ conversations easy than before. This year’s WWDC is said to be Apple’s event but Twitter has little attention from the event as well.

Twitter rolled out this feature yesterday and posted a note about how it works. It is now believed that the company will be focusing more on algorithmic ordering of the timeline, as well as content on its platform. The company has not yet given any date regarding the launch of this feature on mobile apps.

Tech Crunch reports, “Last year the company confirmed the launch of a more algorithmic timeline — intentionally diluting the human-powered curation that otherwise defines the network and allows Twitter users to be exposed to a greater breadth of content vs. other more tightly controlled social services like Facebook.”

The corporate giant is motivated to bring changes and alterations in the information that users see with the help of algorithm in an attempt to grow the social media network usage by users. It is trying to make its timeline more ‘filtered’, which will help in presenting a ‘more enticing’ on-ramp for new Twitter users. The old users obviously have no problem with the features, as they have created enough value in the service themselves.

The company is taking several steps in order to control and shape the information for viewers. It is a long ongoing process. For instance, the company launched a ‘While You Were Away…’ feature at the end of last year that gave the recap of selected tweets that its algorithm figures a user might like on his/her timeline.

Furthermore, Twitter worked to minimize and limit the spread of violent threats and abuse from the social media network. In this, it tested an anti-abuse filter, which identifies abusive tweets and posts and limit their reach to the masses.

About the tracking of conversation under tweets, the product manager at Twitter, Akarshan Kumar, wrote, “Conversations surrounding a Tweet, particularly if they’ve sparked lots of replies and disparate conversations can be hard to follow. So, we’re doing a few things to make this much easier: grouping conversations together and highlighting some of the most interesting exchanges surrounding a given Tweet right below that Tweet.”
