Yahoo!, Inc. launched their soundless Live Video Chatting App worldwide on August 13, 2015.

According to Yahoo news, the LiveText Video Messenger App was previously released in a few countries for testing which include Germany, France, The United Stated and Canada. This app introduced a new way of communication, which was video texting without sound. The point of the app is to have a real communication experience where the people can see each other texts and see each other’s expressions. It has combined the concept of video calling and text messaging eliminating the awkward factor of calling someone or being on a video call with a lot of background noise.

As stated by Adam Cahan, SVP of mobile and emerging products at Yahoo!, Inc., “audio is often the biggest inhibitor of video chat.” What they found out was that sometimes the biggest problem of texting was describing a person’s emotions, without the help of an emoji that was not possible so their point of soundless video chatting was to eliminate this factor.

Arjun Sethi, the senior direct of product management stated that having a video conversation is formal; they feel that they have to make an appointment to have a video conversation. Their target audience is the younger generation and the company hopes that this service will eliminate “awkward” video conservation problems that people face. LiveText makes communication more efficient and simpler. It enables a user to shoot a video without the excess background sound and send it to their friends with a text message.

Most of the mobile apps become successful due to their originality, that users can simply download the app and start using it. Yahoo!, Inc. found a gap in the market and turned it into an app. For example: Most SnapChat users have had to face an issue, where you are sitting in a public place, a classroom or your office and you send a picture message via SnapChat to your friend, and the friend replies back with a video message which you open in the classroom and suddenly there is voice screaming out of your phone. This is the gap that LiveText filled in the market.

Everyone is still skeptical about this app since in a sea of competitors it is hard to say whether the app will last or not. The creator Arjun Sethi said at the launch that he and his team were enthused to create this soundless app when they saw the messaging patterns of the people. LiveText is now available on the App Store and the Google Play Store.
